Jason,

You've done some really great work with ALL of these!! But I'd like to concentrate on just the Air Guard patch for a moment.

Quesiton. How did you get from the coin, or whatever, to the carving? In other words, what did you scan to get the info into the Designer software? If possible, step by step procedures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I beleive he received the challenge coins for his cooperation in making the signs not making them from the coins.

I beleive he had the artwork and make a pattern from it.

were gifts from the Air Wing and Base commanders at the Peoria Air Guard.

The collage that you see with the image on the left is the actual image that I scanned to make both plaques. It was a sticker - the great thing is the fact that is all framed in black.

1. I put the sticker on my scanner - scanned the image
2. Imported the image into designer
3. Opened the image in the pattern editor and fixed a few flaws
4. Put my design on my board
5. Set my depth at 1/18 of an inch
6. Carved the piece
7. Painted it with watered down acrylic paints so that the grain of the wood would show through
8. Then I used a black Sharpie marker to color the black

Yes it was really that easy - I think the biggest issue is that we all try to OVER-THINK everything - some of my best projects have been on a whim....

Jason,

Thank you very much. It looks complicated but with your directions I'm looking forward to doing many of these sorts of things.
